Rjukan-Notodden Industrial Heritage

Our partner is listed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. To engage children aged 6–12, we brought the industrial adventure to life through comics, videos and QR activities. Featuring the unique characters Sam and Sara, these experiences make visits to the museums and surrounding areas both fun and meaningful.

Sam & Sara

Our two heroes and their dragon companion Vassdragen take the audience on an adventurous journey through time, industry and nature to uncover the history of the Rjukan-Notodden Industrial Heritage. Sara is bold and pragmatic, Sam is humorous and headstrong, and Vassdragen embodies the raw energy of nature.

An Industrial Adventure

We documented and illustrated the rich history of the region – from the Vemork power plant, Rjukan Railway, and the Storegut ferry to pioneering inventions like the arc furnace and the dramatic heavy water sabotage of WWII. Featuring visionaries such as Kristian Birkeland and Sam Eyde, and honoring the everyday workers, it tells the story of how the region modernized Norway and left its mark on the world.

Book

Øistein’s illustrations came to life in an 80-page history and activity book packed with comics, drawing exercises and coloring pages. Kids learn to draw iconic landmarks and historical figures while discovering fascinating facts, turning complex history into fun, accessible adventures.

QR Activity

The industrial heritage is full of hidden treasures! We designed an interactive QR-based activity for visitors to Notodden, Mæl and Rjukan. By scanning QR codes at key historical landmarks, participants solve quizzes that bring history to life with fun facts and animations. They explore their surroundings, uncover surprises and discover the stories behind each location.

Video Series

We created a three-part video series presented by Øistein Kristiansen, where kids learn to draw landmarks and figures from the Industrial Adventure while discovering fascinating stories and facts. The videos feature fun animations and stunning drone footage from TM Studio. We also designed wall art for the museum’s creative corners—spaces where children can sit and draw along.
